Today show host Savannah Guthrie<\/a> is opening up about the day her mother Nancy Guthrie<\/a> went missing in the first part of an interview with Hoda Kotb, after an earlier clip was released on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Nancy was reported missing on Feb. 1<\/a>. Authorities believe the 84-year-old was\u00a0abducted or otherwise taken against her will<\/a>. The FBI previously released surveillance videos of a masked man<\/a> who was outside her front door the night she vanished.<\/p>\n

Savannah recalled the moment she received a phone call from her sister Annie Guthrie, who told her that her mom was \u201cmissing,\u201d during the Thursday segment of Kotb\u2019s Today\u00a0show interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018Is everything OK?\u2019 And she said, \u2018No, Mom\u2019s missing.\u2019 And I said, \u2018What? What are you talking about?\u2019 She said, \u2018She\u2019s gone.\u2019 She was in a panic. I was in a panic,\u201d Savannah told Kotb. \u201cWe thought that she must have had some kind of medical episode in the night, and that somehow the paramedics had come.\u201d<\/p>\n

Savannah said her mother\u2019s back door was propped open, which \u201cdidn\u2019t make any sense.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thought maybe they came and there was a stretcher and they took her out the back. But her phone was there and her purse was there and all her things and it just didn\u2019t make any sense,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Her sister and brother-in-law Tommy Cioni told authorities their mother wouldn\u2019t have just left on her own.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe can\u2019t wander off. My mom, she was in tremendous pain.\u2029Her back was very bad. You know? On a good day, she could walk down to the mailbox and get the mail, but most days, not so was there was no wander off. The doors were propped open. There was blood on the front doorstep. The Ring camera had been yanked off,\u201d Savannah said.<\/p>\n

Savannah\u2019s brother Charles Camron Guthrie, whom she described as \u201cbrilliant\u201d with a military background, was the first to suggest that their mom was kidnapped for ransom.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you think because of me?\u201d Savannah recalled saying to her brother. \u201cAnd he said, \u2018I\u2019m sorry, sweetie, but yeah, maybe.\u2019 But I knew that. We still don\u2019t know, honestly, we don\u2019t know anything.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s because she\u2019s my mom, and somebody thought, \u2018Oh, that girl, that lady has money, we can make a quick buck.\u2019 I mean, that would make sense, but we don\u2019t know, which is too much to bear, to think that I brought this to her bedside. That it\u2019s because of me. And I just say \u2018I\u2019m so sorry, Mommy.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry to my sister and my brother and my kids and my nephew and Tommy, my brother-in-law,\u201d a tearful Savannah said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\tSavannah shares details of the ransom notes\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

In the days that followed Nancy\u2019s disappearance, police began investigating the legitimacy of several suspected ransom notes<\/a> sent to media outlets around the Arizona area, where the 84-year-old woman disappeared.<\/p>\n

At least three media outlets \u2014 TMZ<\/a>\u00a0and two of CNN\u2019s Tucson affiliates,\u00a0KOLD<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0KGUN<\/a> \u2014 reported receiving the purported ransom notes demanding millions in bitcoin for Nancy\u2019s release.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were a lot of different notes, I think, that came and I think most of them, it\u2019s my understanding, are not real,\u201d Savannah shared. \u201cI didn\u2019t see them but, you know, a person that would send a fake ransom note really has to look deeply at themselves. But I believe the two notes that we received that we responded to, I tend to believe those are real.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked how she felt when she saw the surveillance video released by authorities of a person whom they described as a potential suspect<\/a> in her mother\u2019s disappearance, Savannah said, \u201cIt\u2019s just totally terrifying. And I can\u2019t imagine that that is who she saw standing over her bed. I can\u2019t. That\u2019s too much.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m glad and I\u2019m grateful to the investigators and the technology companies that were able to find that video,\u201d she said of the footage.<\/p>\n

Savannah also commented on the speculation that one of her family members could have been involved in the disappearance.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo I hope at least with people of good heart and compassion stop the irresponsible and cruel speculation that had started to swirl? I\u2019m glad that people saw what came to our door,\u201d she told Kotb.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you talk about the cruel speculation, the whispers, the innuendo that it was somebody in your family, how did you weather that?\u201d Kotb asked.<\/p>\n

Savannah said there are \u201cno words\u201d and she doesn\u2019t understand how others could think that.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s unbearable. And it piles pain upon pain,\u201d Savannah said. \u201cAnd no one protected my mom more than my brother. And we love her and she is our shining light. She\u2019s our matriarch. She\u2019s all we have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Arizona officials cleared all members of the Guthrie family<\/a> as possible suspects, which includes \u201call siblings and spouses.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said last month that the Guthrie family has been co-operative and gracious as authorities investigate the kidnapping.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel,\u201d the statement said<\/a>. \u201cThe Guthrie family are victims plain and simple.\u201d<\/p>\n

Savannah said her family cannot be at peace until they know what happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe cannot be at peace without knowing. And someone can do the right thing. And it is never too late to do the right thing,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd our hearts are focused on that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\tSavannah Guthrie said her family is in ‘agony’\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

In the Wednesday preview clip for Savannah\u2019s interview, the Today\u00a0show host had said her family is in \u201cagony\u201d<\/a> as the search for her mother enters its eighth week.<\/p>\n

Savannah said \u201csomeone needs to do the right thing\u201d and come forward with information to help the investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in agony. It is unbearable and to think of what she went through,\u201d a tearful Savannah said in a portion of her first interview<\/a> shared on the\u00a0Today\u00a0show Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wake up every night in the middle of the night and in the darkness I imagine her terror and it is unthinkable but those thoughts demand to be thought,\u201d Savannah said. \u201cAnd I will not hide my face. But she needs to come home now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both Savannah and Kotb were crying during the brief portion of the interview aired on Wednesday. Kotb, Savannah\u2019s former co-host, has returned to Today while her former colleague has been away.<\/p>\n

While speaking about the interview, Kotb said there is a \u201cdesperation and also a steeliness about Savannah.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s hoping that somebody, whoever this person is, will see something and say something. And as you\u2019ll see in the coming days, she talks about so many things,\u201d Kotb added of the interview.<\/p>\n
