{"id":563146,"date":"2026-03-26T23:59:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T23:59:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/563146\/"},"modified":"2026-03-26T23:59:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T23:59:12","slug":"bc-conservative-mla-removed-from-caucus-facing-serious-charges-bc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/563146\/","title":{"rendered":"BC Conservative MLA removed from caucus, facing \u2018serious charges\u2019 &#8211; BC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\tDescrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tIncrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>The BC Conservatives say an MLA has been removed from the Conservative Caucus and is facing serious charges.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Hon Chan, the MLA for Richmond Centre, informed Conservative Interim Leader Trevor Halford of the charges on Wednesday, Halford said in a release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday, Mr. Chan informed me of serious criminal charges against him,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrior to yesterday, the caucus and party had no knowledge of this matter or any related incidents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the BC Prosecution Service said that Chan was charged with assault, assault by choking and uttering threats on March 25.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1767930311_275_national.jpg\" alt=\"Get daily Canada news delivered to your inbox so you'll never miss the day's top stories.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet daily National news<\/p>\n<p>Get daily Canada news delivered to your inbox so you&#8217;ll never miss the day&#8217;s top stories.<\/p>\n<p>The service appointed a special prosecutor on June 27, 2025, to investigate the allegations against Chan.<\/p>\n<p>They said the alleged offences happened on Jan. 12, 2024, in Richmond.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>The BC Conservative Party said, \u201cOur caucus wishes to be clear, any allegations of domestic violence are taken seriously. Anyone who experiences it deserves to know that people in positions of public trust will be held to the highest standard of accountability.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Crime<br \/>\n\t\t\tMore videos\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Chan is entitled to the presumption of innocence and due process before the courts.
