The Fontana City Council recently celebrated two standout members of the community \u2014 International Boxing Federation Lightweight Champion Raymond Muratalla and Fontana Police Department January Employee of the Month Noely Santoyo. Each individual was recognized for their hard work and accomplishments at the city council meeting on March 10. \u201cEverybody, please put your hands together for this young man, Fontana born and raised and went on the world stage representing us,\u201d Mayor Acquanetta Warren said, speaking to Muratalla\u2019s origins as a Fontana native.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am so proud of him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cShe does it all with an amazing, positive attitude, she has an infectious smile (and) she\u2019s a wonderful human being,\u201d Police Capt. Brian Binks said, speaking to Santoyo\u2019s contributions to the department. \u201cThank you, and congratulations on being employee of the month.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is our honor to have her in our building.\u201d<\/p>\n
To date, Muratalla has won various belts and honors across several major fights \u2014 many of which were displayed on stage during the meeting. In honor of his victory on the world stage, the Fontana City Council awarded him a special certificate, noting that it is \u201can extraordinary accomplishment.\u201d \u201cYour continued success in the ring brings pride to our community and serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes throughout Fontana,\u201d Warren said, reading the certificate.<\/p>\n
Santoyo serves as the Fontana Police Department\u2019s main point of contact for applicants throughout the city. Capt. Binks said that the department has experienced an influx of new hires and that the employee of the month has made \u201chundreds\u201d of contacts each month, sets up appointments and interviews, reviews background packets and generally ensures the fluidity of Fontana PD\u2019s hiring process.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to take the opportunity to say let\u2019s challenge Noely and make her job a lot harder \u2014 we have positions open now at the Fontana Police Department,\u201d Binks said, jokingly. \u201cWe\u2019ll give her employee of the month in June if she can keep it up.\u201d<\/p>\n
Warren introduced the presentation as a surprise to the community, noting that they were last-minute additions to the agenda.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn additional presentation was added to today\u2019s agenda (…) and once you see these presentations, you\u2019ll understand why,\u201d Warren said. \u201cCongratulations on behalf of all of my colleagues and this great community of over 220,000 that call it home.\u201d<\/p>\n
Each of the stars of the day also had an opportunity to speak and thanked the community for its support. \u201cThank you to my team (and) my bosses,\u201d the employee of the month said. \u201cWithout their support, I wouldn\u2019t be able to do what I do.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m a simple guy \u2014 I love to fight, I love to train and I started when I was 7 years old,\u201d the international boxing champion said. \u201cMy family being by my side has been a huge help and support system and now that I\u2019m being recognized by Fontana, it\u2019s even greater.<\/p>\n
