The K-pop icons \u2013 consisting of Jin,\u00a0Suga,\u00a0J-Hope,\u00a0RM,\u00a0Jimin,\u00a0V and\u00a0Jung Kook \u2013 pulled back the curtain on their grueling work hours and the recording of their latest record, \u201cArirang,\u201d in the newly released Netflix documentary \u201cBTS: The Return.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI started making music because there was something\u00a0I wanted to say to the world, but\u00a0being in the K-pop system means there\u2019s constant output, so we gotta keep moving,\u201d RM, 31, shared in the doc.<\/p>\n The wildly popular K-pop band BTS (pictured here in the new Netflix doc \u201cBTS: The Return\u201d) worked so hard that some members said they felt like they were \u201ccommitting a crime\u201d if they asked for a break. COURTESY OF NETFLIX<\/p>\n \u201cI lost my sense of who we are as a team,\u201d he continued. \u201cAnd if I express that we need a break, it almost feels like to even admit that, I feel guilt, like I\u2019m committing a crime.\u201d<\/p>\n Jung Kook, 28, compared himself and his fellow BTS members to workers in a factory.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat does kind of stress me out a little bit is that I just want to have fun making music, but I feel like we\u2019re kind of operating like a factory,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Jin, meanwhile, acknowledged how the seven-member South Korean boy band used to experience \u201ca lot of suffering\u201d through their creative process. COURTESY OF NETFLIX<\/p>\n \u201cNow, if a song doesn\u2019t work out, it doesn\u2019t work out, and we just move on,\u201d Jin, 33, shared. \u201cWe don\u2019t feel the same desperation that we used to.\u00a0At the end of the day, we never know if it will be a hit.\u201d<\/p>\n Although the members of BTS have managed to balance the infamously high-pressure nature of the K-pop industry, other artists have tragically succumbed to the demanding workload that comes with it.<\/p>\n Kim Jonghyun, the lead singer of South Korean pop group SHINee, died from a suspected suicide<\/a> in December 2017 at the age of 27. <\/p>\n K-pop star Goo Hara was found dead in South Korea<\/a> at the age of 28 in November 2019. More recently, Astro member Moonbin was found dead from a suspected suicide<\/a> in April 2023 at 25.<\/p>\n BTS, however, has become known for breaking traditional K-pop norms by tackling issues like mental health and social pressure while promoting more positive concepts like self-love and resilience.<\/p>\n SHINee member Kim Jonghyun (pictured here in October 2016) died from a suspected suicide in December 2017 at 27.
