In your March 19 edition there were two opposing views on religion in schools.<\/p>\n
We realize not everyone is religious.<\/p>\n
By teaching our children about the religions of the world we give them a better understanding of all who inhabit our planet.<\/p>\n
We may not agree with some religions, yet we should learn to respect them and their followers. By doing this we may, in the future, have fewer religion-based conflicts.<\/p>\n
Education is an important part of our lives. So learning about other religions will help us all to get along in this world. Knowledge is a wonderful thing, and we all should keep on learning.<\/p>\n
Steven Feldman\u2019s letter states that no religion should be taught in schools and those who wish should send their children to faith-based schools. Many families send their children to these schools by choice; others send their children to public schools by choice. By \u201csegregating\u201d our schools by religion, we are not promoting understanding and respect for all.<\/p>\n
We agree with Paul Griffin\u2019s letter congratulating Surrey school board on their forward thinking in educating our children about world religions.<\/p>\n
