article font size<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tIncrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>The federal government says it\u2019s funding a $15.6-million program that supports Saskatchewan workers and employers affected by tariffs.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Ottawa says the three-year program is available to those in the steel and softwood lumber industries, along with other sectors affected by foreign duties.<\/p>\n<p>It says the funding would support up to 1,800 workers in Saskatchewan who may face unemployment and require new skills to keep their jobs.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img the day&#8217;s top stories.<\/p>\n<p>The government says supports will be delivered through SaskJobs, which helps residents find work or training programs.<\/p>\n<p>Buckley Belanger, Canada\u2019s secretary of state for rural development, says the funding gives workers a fair shot when <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/tariffs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tariffs<\/a> hit their industries hard.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian businesses slapped with targeted U.S. levies have said they\u2019re struggling to make ends meet and have had to cut staff or production.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis funding is about making sure they\u2019ve got options, whether that\u2019s building new skills or finding the next opportunity,\u201d Belanger said in a news release Friday. \u201cThe Government of Canada and the Province of Saskatchewan have their backs, and we\u2019re going to keep showing up for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Economy<br happy to partner with the federal government to take a proactive approach to protecting Saskatchewan from potential risks to our economy, our labour market and our people,\u201d he
