{"id":565889,"date":"2026-03-28T05:20:19","date_gmt":"2026-03-28T05:20:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/565889\/"},"modified":"2026-03-28T05:20:19","modified_gmt":"2026-03-28T05:20:19","slug":"electrical-upgrades-promised-for-fast-growing-brampton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/565889\/","title":{"rendered":"Electrical upgrades promised for fast-growing Brampton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alectra Utilities plans to spend $28.6 million to upgrade the electrical grid in Brampton to meet growing demand.<\/p>\n<p>The company is the electricity utility and distributor that serves several municipalities in southern Ontario, including Brampton.<\/p>\n<p>The work planned for this year will focus on renewing deteriorating infrastructure and modernizing the grid so that customers can rely on service well into the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrampton continues to grow at a rapid pace, and reliable electricity is essential to supporting that growth,\u201d said Chris Hudson, Senior Vice President, Network Operations and Safety, Alectra Utilities. \u201cThis investment will strengthen critical infrastructure, help reduce the risk of outages and enable us to respond faster when service disruptions occur.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Work will include renewing equipment nearing the end of its useful life to strengthen day-to-day reliability for homes and businesses, including $9.4 million to replace aging infrastructure such as poles, transformers and switchgear.<\/p>\n<p>As well, to keep pace with population growth and new development, Alectra will spend $600,000 to connect new customers across Brampton and ensure that crews can quickly identify and restore power when issues arise, including a $6.2 million investment to modernize substations and deploy new automated devices by replacing outdated controllers with automated switches, improving restoration speed during disruptions.
