(Martin County Sheriff\u2019s Office via AP)<\/p>\nGolf legend Tiger Woods has been arrested on suspicion of DUI after he showed \u201csigns of impairment\u201d following a rollover crash in Jupiter, Florida, Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek told reporters on Friday.<\/p>\n
Budensiek said Woods, who was the sole occupant in the vehicle, seemed \u201clethargic\u201d after the crash, but wasn\u2019t injured and was able to crawl out of the toppled Land Rover on his own before officers arrived. <\/p>\n
Budensiek said\u00a0Woods\u00a0attempted to pass a pressure cleaner truck, but clipped the back end of the truck\u2019s trailer, causing him to lose control. <\/p>\n
The driver of the truck wasn\u2019t injured. <\/p>\n
\u201cOn scene we had \u2026 experts evaluating him, and they believe from on scene that he was not impaired on alcohol, they believe it was some kind of medication or drug,\u201d Budensiek said.<\/p>\n
Woods later passed a breathalyzer test, but Budensiek said he refused to submit a urine sample. <\/p>\n
\u201cMr. Woods did a breathalyzer test, blew triple-zeroes,\u201d Budensiek confirmed. \u201cBut when it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis, he refused and he\u2019s been charged with DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.\u201d<\/p>\n
Budensiek said those charges are all misdemeanours and that Woods had the right to refuse the urine test, although it resulted in the additional charge.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will never get definitive results as to what he was impaired on at the time of the crash.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s in our jail,\u201d he added. \u201cHe will be there for at least eight hours, then he\u2019ll be released on bond if he posts bond.\u201d<\/p>\n

The sheriff said no drugs or medications were found in the vehicle. <\/p>\n
The Sheriff\u2019s Office said the crash happened just after 2 p.m. on a small two-lane road not far from Woods\u2019 home. <\/p>\n
This is at least the fourth auto-related incident involving the golfer and the second in which he was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.<\/p>\n
Woods was arrested for DUI back in 2017 when South Florida police found him asleep in his vehicle that was parked at the side of the road. Woods\u00a0later blamed a bad mix of painkillers used to treat his many injuries, and pleaded guilty to reckless driving.<\/p>\n
The 15-time major champion was also involved in a car crash in 2021 in California, which led to leg injuries severe enough that doctors considered amputation.<\/p>\n
The Florida resident underwent multiple surgeries in the aftermath of that crash, further curtailing his already-waning PGA career. <\/p>\n
In November 2009, Woods drove his Cadillac Escalade into a fire hydrant and a tree in his neighbour\u2019s yard in the early morning hours, two days after the National Enquirer published a story alleging Woods had been seeing a New York nightclub hostess.<\/p>\n
Police said at the time officers found Woods lying in the street with his then-wife, Elin Nordegren, hovering over him. She told officers she was in the house when she heard the crash and \u201ccame out and broke the back window with a golf club.\u201d Woods had lacerations to his upper and lower lips, and blood in his mouth.<\/p>\n
The 50-year-old played his first competitive golf in 13 months on Tuesday during the TGL Finals, when his Jupiter Links fell to Los Angeles Golf Club.<\/p>\n
Prior to Tuesday\u2019s TGL event, Tiger spent the past several months recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon and another back surgery he underwent last October.<\/p>\n
