Staff, students and families in Rainbow District School Board schools are encouraged to \u201cswitch off\u201d for Earth Hour on March 28 at 8:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
Hundreds of millions of people around the world will turn their lights off for one hour in a demonstration of support for global action on climate change.<\/p>\n
Earth Hour, a project of the World Wildlife Federation (WWF), was pioneered in 2007 by WWF-Australia.<\/p>\n
Today, Earth Hour is one of the world\u2019s largest grassroots movements for the environment. Rainbow District School Board has participated in Earth Hour since 2008.<\/p>\n
\u201cEnvironmental Education and Sustainability is a priority for Rainbow District School Board,\u201d says director of education Bruce Bourget, in a press release.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur schools have demonstrated that even small changes can have profound impacts on our planet.<\/p>\n
\u201cStudents continue to adopt the values and behaviours required for sustainability, transferring what they are learning in the classroom into their homes and communities. This generation is paving the path forward for those who will follow in their footsteps.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rainbow District School Board will turn off all non-essential interior and exterior lights in its schools and at the Centre for Education.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe encourage everyone to participate,\u201d said Bourget. \u201cClimate change is one of the most defining issues of our time. Our health and the health of our planet depends on what we do each and every day.\u201d<\/p>\n
