Hundreds gathered outside the U.S. consulate in Toronto Saturday afternoon for the \u201cNo Kings\u201d protest against President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

Organizers say roughly 2,500 events were planned for the second nationwide \u2018No Kings\u2019 protest against the Trump administration \u2014 nearly double the number from earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Buchanan said aside from supporting sister rallies across the world, Toronto\u2019s protest is a way to bring together American or dual citizens to encourage them to vote.<\/p>\n

She said there\u2019s no official number for how many Americans live in the country, but that roughly 600,000 U.S. citizens in Canada voted in the last election.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery American should vote, especially this coming midterm election,\u201d Buchanan said.<\/p>\n

Trump reacted to previous No Kings rallies by insisting “I’m not a king,” and saying attendees were “not representative of the people of our country.”<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s policies are also affecting Canadians, including those in Hamilton, said protester Laurie O\u2019Neal.<\/p>\n

She said a group in Hamilton gathers every Saturday to protest against U.S. issues that are affecting them.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t just brush [Trump] off and think he’s crazy,\u201d she said. \u201cUntil it happens to your own family then you’re all up in arms about it, so that hits home also.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another demonstrator Beverly Ambler said she was there out of shock for the \u201cselfishness, tyranny and lack of respect for humankind\u201d across the border.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnless you\u2019re an Indigenous person, then [Americans and Canadians] come from immigrant stock,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s wrong to target people just because of where they are born.\u201d<\/p>\n
