Ever since Science Saru announced its intentions to remake\u00a0Ghost in the Shell<\/a>, the studio\u2019s given vague teases at what that new version<\/a> would look like. If you\u2019ve been waiting to see what the landmark series would look like in Saru and Production I.G\u2019s direction, wait no further: it\u2019s here, and it looks pretty good. Emphasis on \u201cpretty.\u201d<\/p>\n

While still much too short for our liking at only 46 seconds, this new look from AnimeJapan makes a compelling case for the series\u2019 arrival this summer. There\u2019s a distinct 90s vibe throughout the preview, which is partially owed to Shuhei Handa\u2019s character designs and its use of color. (That final shot of Kusanagi\u2019s red eyes contrasted with her blue hair? Mwah, beautiful, yes, please.) Its aesthetic leans more cartoony than prior adaptions, but with the tradeoff of leaning more toward the artwork of the original manga<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Along with the preview above, Science Saru came to AnimeJapan with a new key visual<\/a> from Handa featuring Motoko Kusanagi on top of the AI tank Fuchikoma. At time of writing, it\u2019s unclear whether The Ghost in the Shell\u00a0is a straight adaptation or something more like a retelling, a la Trigun Stampede. Luckily, we don\u2019t have to wait that long to find out\u2014it\u2019s coming out this July, which means we\u2019ll be seeing and hearing more about it in the coming months.<\/p>\n
