The Canadian government has announced their plan to invest $249,000 into Hamilton\u2019s transportation infrastructure.<\/p>\n
The feds say the investment will support the construction of more than 500 metres of new bike lanes and multi-use paths around Victoria Avenue.<\/p>\n
Included in the government plan is the delivery of more than 150 km of cycling infrastructure in Hamilton through their Accelerated Active Transportation Implementation Plan.<\/p>\n
The City of Hamilton also intends to contribute $166,000 towards the upgrades.<\/p>\n
What will be constructed is approximately 370 metres of barrier separated two-way cycle track, 120 metres of new multi-use paths, a new bike share hub and new signage and road markings along the routes.<\/p>\n
Most of the improvements are planned to be made along Victoria Avenue between Hunter and Stinson streets. Upgrades on Stinson Street between West Avenue and Victoria Avenue will also take place.<\/p>\n
Ottawa says the implementation of these lanes and paths will improve connections between the upper and lower city, the north end and the downtown core.<\/p>\n
This new investment adds onto previously announced funding for Hamilton\u2019s transportation infrastructure, which now totals $270,000.<\/p>\n
