{"id":567685,"date":"2026-03-29T01:36:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-29T01:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/567685\/"},"modified":"2026-03-29T01:36:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-29T01:36:08","slug":"east-york-mechanic-stabbing-suspect-arrested","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/567685\/","title":{"rendered":"East York mechanic stabbing: suspect arrested"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A 21-year-old man has been arrested in the stabbing death of a mechanic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cp24.com\/local\/toronto\/2026\/03\/26\/27-year-old-mechanic-stabbed-to-death-in-east-york-suspect-sought\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.cp24.com\/local\/toronto\/2026\/03\/26\/27-year-old-mechanic-stabbed-to-death-in-east-york-suspect-sought\/\">in East York earlier this week.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Toronto police <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/65541\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/65541\/\">announced on Saturday<\/a> that Pratik Parajuli Thapa had been charged with second-degree murder in Wednesday night\u2019s fatal stabbing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Officers were initially called for an unknown trouble in the area of Gamble and Donlands Avenues shortly after 9:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police said there were reports of an altercation at the back of a low-rise residential building and when officers arrived, they located 27-year-old Ahmed Hassan Asif without vital signs and suffering from stab wounds.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1774748168_167_HPD4H4PU2FEVNE3E5MIAQAWI6E.jpeg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/>Ahmed Hassan Asif, Ahmed Hassan Asif, 27, is seen in this photo released by police. (Toronto Police Service handout) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Life-saving measures were performed, but police said Asif was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He is the city\u2019s fifth homicide victim of the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In a news release on Saturday, police said Thapa had also been charged with robbery. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He is scheduled to appear in court on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">When asked on Thursday about a possible motive for the stabbing, Toronto Police homicide Det.-Sgt. Sajeev Nair said he does not believe the incident was random but would not elaborate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Nair described Asif as a \u201chard-working young man\u201d who was \u201cvery much loved by his family and his nieces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He said Asif was not a resident of Toronto but does live in the GTA.
