{"id":567873,"date":"2026-03-29T03:46:24","date_gmt":"2026-03-29T03:46:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/567873\/"},"modified":"2026-03-29T03:46:24","modified_gmt":"2026-03-29T03:46:24","slug":"police-stop-two-for-speeding-in-school-zone-one-not-wearing-seatbelt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/567873\/","title":{"rendered":"Police stop two for speeding in school zone, one not wearing seatbelt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ottawa police say they caught a couple drivers for driving at high speeds through a community safety zone in Orleans on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Officers were stationed in a school zone in the Renaud Road area between 2:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>They stopped two drivers and charged them.<\/p>\n<p>It was a 40 km\/h speed limit in a school zone. One driver was caught speeding at 74 km\/h and the other driver at 62 km\/h. The other driver was also found to not be wearing a seatbelt.<\/p>\n<p>Police are reminding drivers to take extra care when travelling in school zones saying <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/OttawaPolice\/status\/2037545540301307993\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">in a social media post<\/a> to \u201cslow down, stay alert, and watch for vulnerable road users\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It was just earlier this week where Ottawa crossing guard, Peter Clark, was killed after being struck by a vehicle while on duty.<\/p>\n<p>Police said Tuesday afternoon a <a href=\"https:\/\/ottawa.citynews.ca\/2026\/03\/24\/crossing-guard-dies-in-hospital-following-hit-and-run-in-barrhaven\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">19-year-old was arrested<\/a>, after they put out pleas for the\u00a0public\u2019s help\u00a0finding a dark-coloured Ford F-150 believed to be involved in the serious hit-and-run.<\/p>\n<p>Officers did not detail any charges laid.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"774\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Screenshot-140.png\" alt=\"Peter Clark, a crossing guard, who was struck by a vehicle while on duty in Barrhaven. (Mark Sutcliffe\/Facebook) <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ottawa Police Service extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Peter Clark, who tragically lost his life while serving as a school crossing guard,\u201d the press release reads. \u201cMr. Clark\u2019s commitment to that responsibility reflects a service to the community that deserves our utmost respect and gratitude.
