I think we\u2019re so happy that we chose to come to this event. We had some wonderful performances,\u201d Poirier told reporters in Prague. \u201cWe really felt so much energy from the crowd and we have so many just great memories of coming to this event, so we\u2019re really pleased with what we\u2019ve been able to accomplish in winning our fifth world medal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Olympic champions Laurence Fournier Beaudry, a Montreal native now representing France, and Guillaume Cizeron comfortably captured gold with 230.81.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Americans Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik took bronze (209.20) in a field that did not include three-time reigning world champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates of the United States.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Canada\u2019s Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha finished ninth, while Marie-Jade Lauriault and Romain Le Gac placed 13th.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"display:block\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/resizer\/v2\/IJQ7GLJ7L5EVLG7TFTUMZ6UVOI.JPG?auth=e844bff2e3c69fde98ed9ed7daf9c7a14c21d66c8a88194e3bb6c8e7f418041f&amp;width=600&amp;height=400&amp;quality=80&amp;smart=true\" aria-haspopup=\"true\" data-photo-viewer-index=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Open this photo in gallery:<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"figcap-text\">Gilles and Poirier compete during the ice dance free dance at the Figure Skating World Championships in Prague on Saturday.Petr David Josek\/The Associated Press<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Gilles and Poirier brought back their successful \u201cWuthering Heights\u201d free dance from 2023-24 for the world championships. After winning that segment at the 2024 worlds in Montreal, they placed third in Saturday\u2019s free dance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">\u201cIt was definitely a challenge today,\u201d Gilles said. \u201cSome moments we were like, \u2019Oh boy, we just got to keep it together.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">\u201cBut you know what? I think we\u2019re so well trained and that\u2019s the challenge that we wanted to do. And I think for us, it was a wonderful moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Gilles and Poirier had skated to Govardo\u2019s cover of \u201cVincent\u201d throughout the season before worlds, claiming Olympic bronze with a heartfelt performance at last month\u2019s Milan Cortina Winter Games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">\u201cThere\u2019s just so much pride when we can wear these medals around our necks, because we just know how much we\u2019ve gotten through to get to these moments,\u201d Gilles said. \u201cWhen we do accomplish our goals and, I don\u2019t know, fulfill these dreams, I think we just feel so honoured and blessed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The world championships marked the end of their 15th season as a duo. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Both 34, Gilles and Poirier have not definitively said whether this season was their last.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">\u201cWe haven\u2019t looked that far,\u201d Gilles said Saturday, as they get set for show tours with Stars on Ice in Japan and Canada through Victoria Day weekend in May.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"display:block\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/resizer\/v2\/BBD7NL3NSNG5ZLOO3UN4ZK7QJU.JPG?auth=12ab02a47b72357631130dc94ab0d9be9ee7f3f94c694549f07670ef5603ea2a&amp;width=600&amp;height=400&amp;quality=80&amp;smart=true\" aria-haspopup=\"true\" data-photo-viewer-index=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Open this photo in gallery:<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"figcap-text\">Gilles and Poirier with their medals. Both 34, they have not definitively said whether this season was their last.David W Cerny\/Reuters<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Earlier Saturday, Canada\u2019s Stephen Gogolev blocked out the noise and delivered yet another impressive performance to finish fourth in men\u2019s singles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Fifth after Thursday\u2019s short program, Gogolev scored a personal-best 186.66 in his free skate to \u201cPiano Concerto No. 2\u201d by Sergei Rachmaninov to move up one spot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Competing at his first world championships, the 21-year-old from Toronto stepped onto the ice with the O2 Arena crowd buzzing after Yuma Kagiyama\u2019s mesmerizing free skate, but still managed a clean program, even if he appeared tight on some jumps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">\u201cSkating after Yuma, you could definitely hear how loud the crowd was. I even had to cover my ears before I got on the ice,\u201d Gogolev said. \u201cAs I was getting on ice after Yuma, I think I was a bit lost. Yuma was already exiting the ice and (coach Beno\u00eet Richaud) had to actually say, \u2019Come on, get on the ice,\u2019 because I was kind of lost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Gogolev lifted his total to 281.04 \u2013 a score that would have landed him on the podium last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Self-proclaimed \u201cQuad God\u201d Ilia Malinin captured his third consecutive world title with 329.40 points, rebounding from a devastating free skate at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Kagiyama won his fourth career silver medal with 306.67, climbing from sixth to second.
