Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn left the door open for the potential return of veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner in free agency. <\/p>\n
“We would never shut the door on him,” Quinn said, per ESPN’s John Keim<\/a>. “We do feel like there’s some players that are about to take off at [his] position.”<\/p>\n Wagner has spent the past two years with Washington, starting in all 34 regular-season games.<\/p>\n The 35-year-old currently remains a free agent, as Quinn and Commanders general manager\u00a0Adam Peters\u00a0both spoke with Wagner regarding their plans before free agency started.<\/p>\n “He’s like the most remarkable player and leader,” Quinn said, via Keim. “I wanted to make sure I said how important he was to me to come here together, like what standards could look like. And then yes, like what Adam said to him and some others, ‘We’re going to leave the door open, and we’ll see what that looks like over the time ahead.'”<\/p>\n While the 10-time Pro Bowler’s best days may be behind him, he still showed that he can be a capable starting option. <\/p>\n Wagner finished with 162 tackles last season, ranking<\/a> No. 5 among all players. He also racked up nine quarterback hits, eight tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, four passes defended and two interceptions. <\/p>\n
