{"id":569313,"date":"2026-03-29T20:20:26","date_gmt":"2026-03-29T20:20:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/569313\/"},"modified":"2026-03-29T20:20:26","modified_gmt":"2026-03-29T20:20:26","slug":"blue-jays-set-mlb-record-for-most-strikeouts-in-first-three-games-of-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/569313\/","title":{"rendered":"Blue Jays set MLB record for most strikeouts in first three games of season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/baseball\/mlb\/teams\/toronto-blue-jays\/\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-team=\"toronto-blue-jays\" data-league=\"mlb\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> had their best swing-and-miss stuff working during their opening series against the Athletics.<\/p>\n<p>After Tommy Nance began the eighth inning of Sunday&#8217;s contest with a punchout of Jeff McNeil, Toronto pitchers had totalled 47 strikeouts on the season \u2014 a major-league record through a team&#8217;s first three games.<\/p>\n<p>The Blue Jays added to that total later against the A&#8217;s, and finished the series with 50.<\/p>\n<p>Toronto pitchers also set a new franchise record for most Ks in a three-game series.<\/p>\n<p>The previous high-water mark for the start of the season came when the Cincinnati Reds struck out 46 against the Detroit Tigers to open their 2020 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Toronto&#8217;s best previous three-game set total came in April 2023 against the Seattle Mariners.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Gausman (11) and Dylan Cease (12) opened Toronto&#8217;s season by setting their own Blue Jays records, taking the marks for most opening-day strikeouts and most Ks in a debut with the club, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/baseball\/mlb\/players\/eric-lauer\/0631a6ce-c41b-4dec-8f68-db2bd61b54a0\" class=\"sn-player-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-player=\"0631a6ce-c41b-4dec-8f68-db2bd61b54a0\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Eric Lauer<\/a> continued the Blue Jays&#8217; starting-pitching dominance on Sunday, setting down nine A&#8217;s over 5.1 innings of work.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to its starters, Toronto has gotten strikeouts from each of the eight relievers it has sent to the mound in 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Toronto Blue Jays had their best swing-and-miss stuff working during their opening series against the Athletics.
