{"id":569585,"date":"2026-03-29T23:25:16","date_gmt":"2026-03-29T23:25:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/569585\/"},"modified":"2026-03-29T23:25:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-29T23:25:16","slug":"browns-gm-andrew-berry-staunchly-shuts-down-rumors-of-a-myles-garrett-trade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/569585\/","title":{"rendered":"Browns GM Andrew Berry Staunchly Shuts Down Rumors of a Myles Garrett Trade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-0\" class=\"mt-[18px] md:mt-0 mb-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"77\">The Browns and Myles Garrett agreed to restructure the two-time Defensive Player of the Year\u2019s contract late last week, a move that&#8217;s led some to speculate exactly what it means. <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7a\">The modification, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/48306607\/sources-browns-myles-garrett-modify-language-contract\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to ESPN\u2019s Field Yates<\/a>, \u201cprovides some cap flexibility for the team going forward by adjusting when the defensive end\u2019s option bonuses will be paid out in 2026, \u201827, and \u201828 &#8230; in a way that has a benefit to Garrett.\u201d What it&#8217;s also done, however, is stoked the fire on the seemingly endless trade rumors surrounding him. <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7d\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/overthecap.com\/browns-and-myles-garrett-agree-to-modified-contract-language\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pointed out by Over the Cap&#8217;s Jason Fitzgerald<\/a>, the restructure gives Cleveland the ability to either spend more money or the option to potentially trade Garrett outright. I think we\u2019ve been very clear\u2014both past and present\u2014in terms of our feeling there. Well, at least for now.<\/p>\n<p>Myles Garrett, Browns trade rumor history<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/01kmxnpda81yesb2c4ps.jpg\" alt=\"Myles Garrett.\" title=\"Myles Garrett.\" width=\"3490\" height=\"2326\" class=\"undefined w-full w-full blur-[5px]\" q:id=\"88\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Myles Garrett has had an interesting tenure in Cleveland. | Katie Stratman-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-11\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8c\">This isn\u2019t the first time that trade rumors have surrounded Garrett and the Browns.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-12\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8f\">Just over a year ago, on Feb. 3, 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/myles-garrett-requests-trade-from-cleveland-browns-in-emotional-statement\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Garrett requested a trade out<\/a> of Cleveland while citing \u201ca desire to win and compete on the biggest stage,\u201d that wouldn\u2019t allow him to be complacent. Just over a month later, however, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/myles-garrett-agrees-to-record-breaking-contract-extension-with-browns\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">two sides agreed to a record-breaking contract extension<\/a> that made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history at the time. <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-13\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8i\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/myles-garrett-breaks-nfl-single-season-sack-record-vs-bengals\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Garrett went on to notch an <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/myles-garrett-breaks-nfl-single-season-sack-record-vs-bengals\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NFL-record 23.0 sacks<\/a> in 2025 on the way to his second career Defensive Player of the Year award. That said, Cleveland went just 5\u201312 while missing the playoffs for a second consecutive season and tallying its 10th losing campaign since Garrett was drafted with the No. 1 pick in 2017. <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-14\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8l\">While his career has ultimately been marred by the Browns&#8217; measly 58\u201380\u20131 record (and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/browns\/myles-garrett-collects-ninth-traffic-citation-drafted-browns\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">countless speeding violations<\/a>), Garrett has also become one of the top defensive players of this generation.
