A large group of family and friends gathered at an intersection in Winnipeg’s North End on Sunday to mourn the loss of Nadine Goosehead Sr., who died after being struck by a semi truck on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Goosehead Sr., 50, was hit by a semi at Dufferin Avenue and Main Street around 3 p.m. on Saturday, Winnipeg police said in a news release.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“She was a very strong woman, loved everybody, loved to laugh, sing, was always there when you needed a helping hand,” Scott said of Goosehead Sr., who recently returned to Winnipeg after visiting their mother in Bloodvein First Nation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“She was loving, she loved everybody. And fun, she was always funny. That’s how we want to remember her,” she said. <\/p>\n

Scott said her sister’s death has left her shocked and feeling as if she’s having a bad dream.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We’re still trying to make sense of it \u2026 and the events leading up to it. Just trying to grasp it and come to terms with everything,” she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Goosehead Sr. had four daughters, Scott said, and she had recently become a grandmother.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Scott said Goosehead Sr. often talked about her “other family” of friends and loved ones in Winnipeg. They joined the family on Sunday, singing songs and sharing hugs as they honoured Goosehead Sr.’s life.<\/p>\n

“It’s awesome to see them come out and join us today. I’m very thankful and very blessed,” Scott said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Goosehead Sr.’s friend Everett Campeau said she had a “really beautiful spirit” and was open-hearted, never shy to tell friends and family that she loved them.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Campeau, who has known Goosehead Sr. for about five years, said he had plans to spend time with her on Monday \u2014 and he can’t believe he won’t see her again.\u00a0<\/p>\n
