{"id":570276,"date":"2026-03-30T07:28:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T07:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/570276\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T07:28:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T07:28:11","slug":"nfl-set-to-hire-replacement-officials-with-cba-negotiations-at-impasse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/570276\/","title":{"rendered":"NFL set to hire replacement officials with CBA negotiations at impasse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NFL is preparing to hire replacement referees for the upcoming season as talks between the league and the NFL Referees Association on a new collective bargaining agreement remain at an impasse, with the current CBA set to expire in the coming months.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the league has already given the go-ahead for staff to start hiring and onboarding replacement refs over the coming weeks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/48344034\/nfl-begin-hiring-replacement-officials-given-state-negotiations-nfl-referees-association\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">ESPN reported Sunday night.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new report does not paint a hopeful picture of the two sides coming to an agreement before the CBA expires on May 31 and NFL owners are said to be \u201calarmed that this negotiation has been as challenging as it\u2019s been,\u201d a league source told the outlet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The NFL had started to put together a list of referees at the college level to try and recruit at the beginning of March and the league would start training the replacement refs starting May 1.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38934451\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/GettyImages-83905255.jpg\" alt=\"Two NFL referees, one labeled &quot;SJ 103&quot; and the other &quot;HL 79,&quot; stand on a field with blurred fans and a &quot;Titans&quot; sign in the background. \" class=\"wp-image-38934451\"  \/>The NFL is preparing to hire replacement referees as the leage and the NFL Referees Assocition negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement.
