\n\tJohn Oliver<\/a> kicked off Sunday\u2019s Last Week Tonight<\/a> by mocking President Trump<\/a> for his justification of avoiding the use of the word \u201cwar\u201d amid the United States\u2019 military operation in Iran<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Iran war entered its second month, though Trump tries not to use the word \u2018war\u2019 for reasons he probably shouldn\u2019t be saying out loud,\u201d Oliver said, setting up a clip of Trump explaining why he isn\u2019t using the term.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI won\u2019t use the word \u2018war\u2019 because they say if you use the word war, that\u2019s maybe not a good thing to do,\u201d Trump said. \u201cThey don\u2019t like the word war because you\u2019re supposed to get approval, so I\u2019ll use the word \u2018military operation,\u2019 which is really what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tResponded Oliver: \u201cWhat? He really just talks like a 6-year-old speaking stream-of-consciousness to a stranger: \u2018And my mum says I\u2019m not allowed to talk about my penis with other people, even though everybody has one, well, not her and not my sister, but my dad and I both have penises, but I can\u2019t say that when there are too many people around, even though everyone knows \u2019cause they have their own penises unless they don\u2019t, but I do.’\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tOliver then said that no matter what word is used to describe the conflict, \u201cit has been chaos.\u201d He recapped recent developments, including Trump threatening to attack Iran\u2019s power grid if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, posting on social media that he\u2019d be \u201cstarting with the biggest\u201d power plant first. That \u201cwould be a war crime if this was a war, but luckily we now know it isn\u2019t,\u201d Oliver observed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tOliver continued that Trump then said those strikes would be delayed after fruitful conversations with Iran, which the latter denied have even taken place. Trump then extended the deadline to April 6, though Iran has been bombing U.S. bases and allies. He noted that 2,000 Iranians and 13 U.S. service members have been killed so far, while Trump is reportedly mulling sending another 10,000 troops to the region.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt sure feels like we\u2019re in an unnecessary war with no endgame, though the president\u2019s supporters will insist that if you just look at things in the right way, it all makes sense,\u201d he said, showing a clip of Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy, a Republican, giving his take.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHere\u2019s why we went into Iran: We had no choice,\u201d Kennedy said. \u201cThe president didn\u2019t start a war. He \u2026 was trying to stop a war.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSaid Oliver: \u201cOh, I get it. Sometimes you have to start a war to stop a war.
