A late-season snowfall is sweeping across parts of southern Manitoba, bringing higher accumulations near the Saskatchewan border while Winnipeg is expected to see lighter amounts that likely won\u2019t stick around for long.<\/p>\n

“So we’ve got a bit of a late-season snowfall event that’s currently impacting Saskatchewan,” says Rose Carlsen, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada (EC). “A little bit of light snow starting in southwestern Manitoba today, and that’s going to continue throughout the day.”<\/p>\n

Regions along the Manitoba\/Saskatchewan border will see the most snow, including Brandon, Portage la Prairie, and up to Riding Mountain National Park.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Generally, what we’re expecting with this system is five to 10 centimetres of snow, but it could be to the order of 10-15 over some of our more terrain areas in the parkland regions.”<\/p>\n

Winnipeg Area is Expecting the Tail End<\/p>\n

While Winnipeg and the rest of southern Manitoba don’t have a special weather statement in effect, the area will still see roughly two to four centimetres of snow throughout the day, with a high of minus two.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We have two to four centimetres today, and then another two to four overnight. It is a later season event.”<\/p>\n

While the temperature is slightly colder than normal for this time of year by a few degrees, the daytime highs for Winnipeg throughout the week will be around zero.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Any kind of snow that is going to be falling now is going to be much more susceptible to melting pretty quickly. It shouldn’t stick around for too long.”<\/p>\n
