A train derailed in St. Catharines, Ont., on Monday morning, according to local police. <\/p>\n
Niagara Regional Police say CN Railway is continuing to investigate the derailment, which occurred east of Glendale Avenue near Keele Street.<\/p>\n
\u201cPreliminary reports indicate there are a number of derailed rail cars in various positions,\u201d CN Railway said in a statement to CTV News Toronto.<\/p>\n
CP24 Chopper footage, taken at around 12:30 p.m., show several cars splayed across the railway tracks in a zig-zag formation with crews on the scene. In an update, CN Railway said 13 railcars were derailed.<\/p>\n
The cause of the derailment is unknown at this time. The railway company said there are no reported injuries or fires. <\/p>\n
The train was transporting a non-dangerous good called polyethylene, CN Railway confirmed, which is a product used to manufacture household products.<\/p>\n
Some of that product spilled from one of the cars, but CN Railway said there is no danger to the public.<\/p>\n
\u201cCN would like to apologize for the inconveniences caused by the incident,\u201d the statement reads. <\/p>\n
The road was closed but police said the blockage has been removed, and traffic has resumed.<\/p>\n
