Edmonton police say a 33-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to stab officers.<\/p>\n
EPS says around 10:30 p.m. on March 1, a Transit Peace Officer and two EPS officers were conducting a proactive patrol of Corona LRT Station when they noticed a man openly consuming alcohol.<\/p>\n
The officers reportedly approached the man, at which point, he pulled out a concealed knife and tried to stab them.<\/p>\n
No injuries were reported from the altercation, and the man was taken into custody.<\/p>\n
Through an investigation, police learned that the man was connected to an alleged robbery at a central Edmonton liquor store around 30 minutes prior to the LRT altercation.<\/p>\n
EPS has since charged 33-year-old Morgan Banman with two counts of attempted murder, three counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and robbery.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile we are grateful that no officers or members of the public were injured, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers all levels of law enforcement face on a daily basis,\u201d says Inspector Jon Morrison with the EPS\u2019 Investigative Response Team.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is also an example of how crime and disorder continue to impact all corners of our city; from the business that was robbed, to the LRT patrons who may have felt unsafe during their commutes, to the officers on proactive duty who were attacked with a weapon.
