Fans waiting for the Invincible live-action movie finally have something to chew on… but it’s a mixed bag.

Robert Kirkman, the creator of Invincible, recently opened up about where things stand with the long-developing adaptation, and while there is progress, it’s clear we’re still a long way from seeing Mark Grayson in live-action form.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Kirkman said the film project is still moving, just not at a pace that’s going to satisfy impatient fans. He explained that he isn’t in “a place where [he] can’t really talk about it,” which suggests things are active, just not ready for a big reveal.

He followed that up with, “it’s definitely a long process and it’s something that hopefully will come together sooner rather than later.”

Part of that delay comes down to priorities. Right now, the team is all-in on the animated series, which continues to be a massive success. Kirkman didn’t dance around that, saying, “our focus right now is on the show and making sure that the show is all it can be.”

The show has been delivering some seriously great storytelling, and they creative team obviously doesn’t want to divide attention too much.

Still, that doesn’t mean the movie is collecting dust. Kirkman reassured fans that there’s ongoing development, even if it’s happening out of sight: “There’s certainly movement here and there behind the scenes, but nothing that we can reveal just yet.”

The film was first announced back in 2017 with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg attached to write, direct, and produce, and their involvement is one of the more exciting aspects of the project.

These are the same guys who helped bring The Boys and Preacher to life, so they know how to handle violent, character-driven comic book stories that don’t pull punches.

Kirkman has stressed that the goal isn’t to just recreate what fans have already seen in animated form. The movie needs to stand on its own. He explained that crafting a version that “provides a different experience” takes time, which is a big reason things aren’t moving faster.

That’s probably the smartest approach. The animated series already nails the tone, the action, and the emotional gut punches. If the movie is going to justify its existence, it has to offer something new.

Of course, adapting Invincible into live-action isn’t exactly easy. The story is massive in scope, brutally violent, and surprisingly emotional. It’s been described as “a thrilling examination of violence and grief,” and translating that balance to live-action without losing what makes it special is a serious challenge.

That said, we’ve seen R-rated superhero films like Deadpool and Logan prove that audiences are more than ready for mature, intense comic book stories. So the path is there, it just needs to be executed right.

As for casting, nothing official has been locked in yet, but there’s at least one fun tease. Sandra Oh, who voices Debbie Grayson in the animated series, has already said she’s “game” to step into the role in live-action. That alone would be a fantastic bit of continuity if it happens.

Looking ahead, Kirkman also hinted that the animated series could run for eight to ten seasons, which further explains why it’s the current focus. There’s a bigger long-term plan in motion, and the live-action movie is just one piece of it.

The Invincible movie is alive and moving forward, but it’s going to take time… possibly a lot of it.

At this point, the best thing fans can do is enjoy the animated series while the filmmakers figure out how to bring this wild, brutal, and emotional story into live-action the right way. If they pull it off, it could be something seriously awesome.

Fans waiting for the Invincible live-action movie finally have something to chew on… but it’s a mixed bag.…

[27
49,48,75,337
post-571778","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-movies","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-entertainment","tag-movies
["GET
