A video from June 2025 of a driver yelling misogynistic insults at a female police officer resurfaced this weekend, sparking outcry from politicians and law enforcement officials.<\/p>\n

In a video circulating on social media has been verified by the Service de Police de la Ville de Montr\u00e9al (SPVM), a driver is heard insulting and humiliating a female police officer that appears to have pulled him over.<\/p>\n

\u201cShut your mouth, you f\u2014ing whore,\u201d the driver says near the beginning of the video<\/a>. He repeatedly calls her a dirty whore and tells her to shut up several times over the course of the one-and-a-half minute video.<\/p>\n

After accusing the officer of racial profiling and following him from the parking lot, he says to the officer: \u201cIs it my fault that you make $20 an hour? Is it my fault that I\u2019m richer than you? If I want to, I\u2019ll buy you right here and sell you into slavery. You\u2019re my slave, basically; if I want to, you\u2019re my slave.\u201d<\/p>\n

The police officer remains level-headed throughout the video, never yelling at or insulting the driver.<\/p>\n

SPVM Chief Fady Dagher called the man\u2019s behaviour \u201cunacceptable,\u201d saying it reflects a \u201crepugnant environment\u201d of a male supremacist movement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve already made my case before regarding a municipal bylaw under the previous administration, and the mayor is already in close contact with her adviser to explore the possibilities of implementing regulations in Montreal\u201d about insulting police officers, he told reporters Monday at the SPVM headquarters.<\/p>\n

Dagher said above all, he commends the \u201cemotional restraint and intellectual composure\u201d of the officer.<\/p>\n

Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada told reporters it is \u201ccompletely unacceptable\u201d to speak to a woman that way, \u201cwhether she is in uniform or not.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThese misogynistic and disrespectful remarks have no place in Montreal. Now, how do we ensure that citizens who are stopped by the police feel they\u2019re being stopped for the right reasons, and how do we ensure that the police are respected in their role?<\/a>\u201d Martinez Ferrada said.<\/p>\n

Asked about a bylaw, Martinez Ferrada said \u201cit\u2019s too early to say whether a bylaw is what we need.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMontreal has never needed that. I think we have a police force that also works differently, with its community partnerships and its police officers who are practically social workers on the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said her administration will have a conversation with the SPVM to \u201cfigure out how we can ensure we have a community and a city where mutual respect prevails between citizens and the police.\u201d<\/p>\n
