A Winnipeg homeowner in the Windsor Park neighbourhood is frustrated after he claims the City of Winnipeg recently came to clear flooding in his back alley, but only ended up pushing ice around, making it difficult to get his car out. Now, he\u2019s left wondering who\u2019s responsible for fixing the problem.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is bad, in the summer it\u2019s just as bad, you know it\u2019s a constant year-long issue, and for that few months in the winter where it\u2019s frozen over, then we\u2019re good,\u201d said Cory Mikiluk, a Winnipeg homeowner.<\/p>\n
Mikiluk has been living in his home since 2019, and every year he runs into the same issues. He claims the city has told him that anyone with a back lane has to clear it themselves, but says that the proper equipment needed to clear the ice efficiently could cost thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t have the tools. A snow blower is not gonna cut it. A shovel, I gotta break it up. Maybe with a sledgehammer, I\u2019ll spend hours out here working on it. I don\u2019t know, it just doesn\u2019t seem viable,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
For Mikiluk and his wife, not being able to access one of their vehicles could lead to even more problems.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just had a baby ourselves. We\u2019re two weeks post partum, and we can\u2019t get this vehicle out. If I leave, then I know my wife is stranded here, don\u2019t love that,\u201d Mikilk explained.<\/p>\n
Mikiluk claims he\u2019s made multiple complaints to the city, but it\u2019s always the same story.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey come clear it, it looks good to them cause it starts flowing for a bit. Then, within a week or one big rainstorm later, we have outstanding water again. It doesn\u2019t really stick to anything they\u2019ve done.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mikiluk has also reached out to city councillor Matt Allard directly multiple times, but he feels that Councillor Allard isn\u2019t doing enough.<\/p>\n
In a statement to CityNews, Councillor Allard says<\/p>\n
\u201cMy office received a communication relative to the matter of flooding on the road in front of a home. My office duly reported the matter to the public service, and we are awaiting a response.
