Colorado Avalanche<\/a> star defenceman Cale Makar<\/a> left Monday\u2019s game against the Calgary Flames<\/a> with an upper-body injury and did not return.<\/p>\n

Makar was not on Colorado\u2019s bench to start the third period with the Avs up 6-1 and was officially ruled out later in the frame. He had three assists in 17:15 of ice time before departing.<\/p>\n

According to Corey Masisak of the Denver Post, Makar took a hit from Flames forward Adam Klapka<\/a> late in the second. He was checked out by the training staff after that shift and took two more shifts in the second before leaving for good.<\/p>\n

Then he didn’t come back for the 3rd.<\/p>\n

Head coach Jared Bednar did not have an update on the injured defenceman after the game, telling reporters the team would know more on Tuesday. The Avs went on to win 9-2.<\/p>\n

The reigning Norris Trophy winner has 20 goals and 55 assists for 75 points in 73 games so far this season, helping the Avalanche tally an NHL-leading 106 points entering play Monday.<\/p>\n

The Avs will be back in action on Wednesday evening at home against the Vancouver Canucks<\/a>.<\/p>\n
