Anthony Albanese has dismissed \u201cspeculation\u201d over what, exactly, will trigger stage three of the four-phase National Fuel Security Plan: fuel rationing.<\/p>\n
The ABC earlier reported that government modelling suggested rationing would come into effect if Australia\u2019s national diesel stockpile dropped to 10 days\u2019 supply. At present, we have 30 days\u2019 worth of diesel and jet fuel in reserve, respectively, and 39 days\u2019 worth of petrol.<\/p>\n
Speaking to ABC Radio Melbourne\u2019s Raf Epstein, however, the Prime Minister said rationing is not under consideration to tackle Australia\u2019s fuel supply shortages.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s the ABC going on \u2013 you\u2019ll see lots of speculation,\u201d Mr Albanese told Epstein, adding his government was doing \u201ceverything we can to keep supply\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we do, the National Cabinet, will go through all of these processes in an orderly way.\u201d<\/p>\n

It comes after Industry and Innovation Minister Tim Ayres repeatedly clashed with host Laura Jayes over the government\u2019s fuel excise cut announcement.<\/p>\n
During an appearance on Sky News this morning, Mr Ayres was grilled by Jayes, who put to him that halving the excise was \u201ca good political decision, (but) I can\u2019t find an economist that thinks it\u2019s a good idea\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, look, it\u2019s the right thing for families, Laura,\u201d he responded, before a heated back-end-forth ensued. <\/p>\n
