Eidos-Montr\u00e9al, developer of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, has announced a workforce reduction impacting 124 employees. Studio head David Anfossi has also left the Embracer-owned company.<\/p>\n
In a statement shared on LinkedIn<\/a>, Eidos-Montr\u00e9al said the decision was due to “changing project needs and impacts across production and support teams.”<\/p>\n “Today is a difficult day for our studio and reflects the need to adapt and concentrate efforts where Eidos-Montr\u00e9al can be most effective,” it wrote.<\/p>\n “We are deeply grateful to the team members impacted; this decision is not a reflection of their talent, dedication, or performance. Supporting those impacted with care and respect remains our priority, while ensuring continuity for the teams moving forward.”<\/p>\n Addressing Anfossi’s departure, the developer added: “We thank David for his contributions and wish him the best in his future endeavours. A transition plan is underway, and further updates will be shared as new leadership is finalised.”<\/p>\n Anfossi had been at the studio for 19 years, starting in 2007 as a producer. He previously worked at Ubisoft Montr\u00e9al, also in a producer role.<\/p>\n This marks the second round of layoffs at Eidos-Montr\u00e9al in recent months. The studio implemented cuts in December<\/a>, and employees reported that most projects had been cancelled.<\/p>\n The current focus is reportedly on co-development, including Microsoft’s Grounded 2 and Fable. The studio’s last developed and released title was Guardians of the Galaxy in 2021.<\/p>\n In March, 75 employees were laid off,<\/a> and 97 positions were made redundant in January 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n Eidos-Montr\u00e9al was acquired by the Embracer Group in 2022 along with Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix Montr\u00e9al<\/a> for $300 million.<\/p>\n
