{"id":572703,"date":"2026-03-31T10:47:25","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T10:47:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/572703\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T10:47:25","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T10:47:25","slug":"2-rounds-of-thunderstorms-to-hit-southern-ontario-some-possibly-severe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/572703\/","title":{"rendered":"2 rounds of thunderstorms to hit southern Ontario, some possibly severe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tuesday is shaping up to be a stormy day in southern Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>Environment Canada has issued an updated weather outlook, which says that two rounds of thunderstorms are expected to sweep through a large part of the region.<\/p>\n<p>First round of storms<\/p>\n<p>During the overnight hours, parts of southwestern Ontario from Goderich to Niagara, including portions of the Greater Toronto Area, are expected to get the hardest hit (location A on the map below).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA first wave of thunderstorms will primarily affect this area with heavy rainfall being the main threat,\u201d forecasters said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUp to toonie-size hail may be possible in the strongest storms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Up to 40 mm of rain is possible in those areas with the first round of storms, with local peak hourly rainfall of 20 to 30 mm, forecasters indicated.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"vidyard-player-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1774932132_313_awZCW3rPmWvxPqZHnBCKLu.jpg\" data-videoid=\"790139\" data-uuid=\"awZCW3rPmWvxPqZHnBCKLu\" data-v=\"4\" data-type=\"inline\" data-muted=\"1\" style=\"width:100%\"\/>    <\/p>\n<p>        <img width=\"1024\" height=\"513\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Screenshot-2026-01-30-at-1.55.02-PM-1024x513.png\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\"  decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>      <\/p>\n<p>Flash flooding, water pooling on roads, and washouts near rivers and creeks is possible.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insauga.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Screenshot-2026-03-30-153229.png\" title=\"\" data-rl_title=\"\" class=\"rl-gallery-link\" data-rl_caption=\"\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-1\" data-rl_ rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"757\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Screenshot-2026-03-30-153229-1024x757.png\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-804775\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tEnvironment Canada<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<br style=\"clear: both\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Areas from Wiarton towards Trenton (location B) may also see storms overnight, but it is less likely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe chance for thunderstorms lessens as you move northeast of the main A area, however thunderstorms are still possible along with heavy rain,\u201d Environment Canada said.<\/p>\n<p>Up to 25 mm is possible there, with a local peak hourly rate of 15 mm.<\/p>\n<p>Far southwestern Ontario, including Windsor, (location C) could see storms early overnight, with up to 15 mm locally in total from the first round.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the onset of thunderstorms in the evening and early overnight, parts of this area may receive strong thunderstorms. Strong wind gusts and small hail may be possible,\u201d the weather agency said for those areas.<\/p>\n<p>Second round of storms may be \u2018severe\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Come late Tuesday afternoon and evening, a large portion of southern Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area, Hamilton, the Niagara Region, London, and Windsor (location A below) are expected to see a second round of storms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter a break in precipitation late Tuesday morning and early afternoon, a second round of thunderstorms is expected and may reach severe potential,\u201d Environment Canada said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUp to 90 km\/h (winds), up to toonie-size hail and heavy rain will be possible with these storms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Up to 30 mm of rain is possible locally with a peak hourly rate of 20 to 30 mm.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insauga.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Screenshot-2026-03-30-153249.png\" title=\"\" data-rl_title=\"\" class=\"rl-gallery-link\" data-rl_caption=\"\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-2\" data-rl_ rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"758\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Screenshot-2026-03-30-153249-1024x758.png\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-2-804774\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tEnvironment Canada<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<br style=\"clear: both\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Forecasters said the storms could result in downed trees, broken tree branches, flooding in low-lying areas, loose objects being tossed, and damage to weak buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, areas from Wiarton towards Kingston are also expected to see storms, but those will have \u201ca muted chance for severe potential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHeavy rain is still likely with these storms,\u201d Environment Canada said.<\/p>\n<p>A peak local hourly rainfall amount of 15 to 25 mm is in the forecast there, with up to 25 mm in total from the second round.<\/p>\n<p>        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insauga.com\/editorial-guidelines\" class=\"editorial-guidelines-link d-block mb-4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n            INsauga&#8217;s Editorial Standards and Policies        <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last 30 Days: 30,073 Votes<\/p>\n<p>All Time: 1,274,210 Votes<\/p>\n<p>    481 VOTES<br \/>\n    Will you head to at least one Toronto Blue Jays game this year?    <\/p>\n<p>\tWIN A $100 GIFT CARD<\/p>\n<p>Subscribe to INsauga\u2019s daily email newsletter for a chance to win a $100 Amazon gift card.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Tuesday is shaping up to be a stormy day in southern Ontario.
