representatives from the Lakeland region in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>Bonnyville\u2013Cold Lake\u2013St. Paul MLA Scott Cyr attended the Alberta Catholic School Trustees\u2019 Association (ACSTA) MLA Reception, describing it as an opportunity to connect with educators and ensure the region\u2019s voice is part of broader conversations around education in Alberta.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvents like this help strengthen relationships and ensure our region\u2019s voice is part of those discussions,\u201d Cyr said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Focus on Catholic education and school choice<\/p>\n<p>Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides addressed attendees, speaking to the role Catholic education plays within Alberta\u2019s school system.<\/p>\n<p>According to Cyr, the minister emphasized the importance of faith-based learning in shaping not only academic outcomes but also student character and community values.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis remarks reflected a strong understanding of the value of faith-based learning\u2026 in building character, responsibility, and community,\u201d Cyr said.<\/p>\n<p>Support for education choice, including Catholic schooling, was highlighted as an ongoing priority at the provincial level.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lakeland Catholic leadership in attendance<\/p>\n<p>The Lakeland region was represented by members of the Lakeland Catholic School Division, including:<\/p>\n<p>Board Chair Anna Brockhoff<br \/>\nTrustee Vince MacDonald<br \/>\nTrustee Jean-Marc Michaud<\/p>\n<p>Cyr said their presence reflects the region\u2019s active role in provincial discussions around education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was great to have our region so well represented\u2026 contributing to conversations that shape education across Alberta,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Emphasis on collaboration<\/p>\n<p>The event also focused on collaboration between elected officials and school boards, particularly when it comes to advocating for resources and supports for students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking together with our school boards in joint advocacy efforts is a win for our local children,\u201d Cyr said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that coordinated efforts help ensure communities receive the support they need to maintain strong local schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Role of faith in education<\/p>\n<p>Cyr also pointed to the timing of the event near the end of Lent, noting the connection between Catholic education and broader values such as service, sacrifice and personal growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCatholic education plays an important role in guiding students not only academically, but also in developing strong values and character,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Provincial support highlighted<\/p>\n<p>The reception included participation from several provincial ministers, including Nicolaides, Infrastructure Minister Martin Long and Advanced Education Minister Myles McDougall.<\/p>\n<p>Cyr said continued provincial engagement is key to maintaining strong Catholic education systems across Alberta, including in the Lakeland.<\/p>\n<p>The event underscored the ongoing role of faith-based
