The Grand River Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch for the entire watershed as up to 60 mm of rain could fall in the next few days.

“The forecasted rainfall is expected to generate significant runoff, leading to rising water levels,” the authority said in its flood watch.

“Current forecasts indicate moderate to heavy precipitation throughout the week, with the majority expected [Tuesday], including a risk of thunderstorms. While projected totals vary, most forecasts call for 50 to 60 mm of rain over the next few days.”

The Grand River watershed stretches from Dundalk in the north, south to Lake Erie and includes all of Waterloo region, Guelph and Wellington County.

The authority says areas that are at risk of flooding should take appropriate precautions in the days ahead. Those areas include:

Grand Valley.Waldemar.Drayton.West Montrose.Village of Conestogo.New Hamburg.Ayr.Brantford.Six Nations.Caledonia.Cayuga.Dunnville.

Levels in local rivers are already high and people are encouraged to use caution if they’re near local waterways, the authority said.

Environment and Climate Change Canada warns there’s a risk of thunderstorms late Monday evening and overnight with up to 20 mm possible in Waterloo region.

Rain continues on Tuesday with a risk of a thunderstorm and up to 15 mm of rain possible during the day with a high of 17 C.

Wednesday is expected to be cloudy, but rain returns to the forecast on Thursday and Friday.

Listen to this article Estimated 2 minutes The audio version of this article is generated by AI-based technology.…

[22
49,48,295,66
post-572858","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-environment","tag-science
["GET
