A driver from Alberta is facing several charges after Ontario Provincial Police say he fled officers after being pulled over on Highway 17.<\/p>\n
The officers were patrolling in the area of Waltonen Road east of Bruce Mines Sunday when they spotted an SUV they say was going over 150 km\/h at around 11:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
The vehicle was stopped east of Big Perch Bay Road.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile speaking with the officer, the driver became argumentative and refused to provide a valid driver’s license or vehicle documentation,\u201d the OPP said in a news release.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe driver continued to argue, then suddenly put the vehicle into gear. The officer stepped back as the SUV accelerated away.\u201d<\/p>\n
OPP units from Blind River and Thessalon looked for the driver along Highway 17 and nearby sideroads.<\/p>\n
At around 2:30 a.m., officers located a suspect vehicle on Emily Court, off Jarret Road.<\/p>\n
They say it was parked in a snowplow\u00a0turnaround and the driver was asleep inside.<\/p>\n
Police blocked in the vehicle and arrested the driver.<\/p>\n
Ryan Chapman, 39, from Edmonton has been charged with:<\/p>\n
\n\tFlight from peace officer
\n\tDangerous operation
\n\tObstruct peace officer
\n\tDrive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
\n\tDriver fail to surrender licence
\n\tFail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
\n\tFail to surrender insurance card
<\/p>\n
In addition, the SUV was impounded for two weeks.<\/p>\n
The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River yesterday and was remanded into custody.<\/p>\n
