The NASCAR Cup Series race had been steady for the 23-year-old, who started seventh and stayed inside the top 15 for much of the day.

That changed on a late restart when contact from Bubba Wallace sent Hocevar spinning and triggered a multi-car crash. The incident involved 12 cars and brought out another caution in a race already shaped by several interruptions.

Hocevar’s car took heavy damage, but his team repaired it quickly enough to keep him on track. He finished 17th, matching his career-best result at Martinsville.

Carson Hocevar Details Contact That Triggered Multi-Car Wreck

The key moment came in the final stage. On a restart, Wallace’s No. 23 car made contact with the rear of Hocevar’s No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet exiting Turn 4. The hit turned Hocevar around, setting off a chain reaction behind him.

After the race, Hocevar described the sequence. “We really didn’t need the debris caution in the middle of the green-flag cycle, and then got run over.”

Before addressing the crash, he pointed to his car’s speed. “I wish we had finished better. We were really fast. I’m really proud of the speed my No. 77 guys put into our Camaro.”

The contact dropped him deep in the field, but the team kept the car running. Hocevar stayed on the lead lap and worked his way back through traffic in the closing laps to finish 17th.

Bubba Wallace Responds After Triggering Late-Race Crash

Wallace also spoke after the race, saying the contact was not intentional. He explained that the situation developed quickly during tight racing conditions.

“I didn’t appreciate the three-wide into Turn 1, which is fine. Then I misjudged the center of the corner, but I didn’t mean to turn him. What a frustrating day, man. Just wasn’t the day we wanted. I hate it for our team.”

Wallace entered the race third in the standings but dropped to 11th after the incident. The crash affected his finish and his points position.

The race at Martinsville included several caution periods that interrupted long runs. The late crash compounded those delays and altered the final running order for multiple drivers.

NASCAR Race Outcome and Next Steps for Both Drivers

Despite the result, Hocevar remained focused on the positives from the race. He highlighted the car’s speed and his team’s effort throughout the weekend.

He also spoke about what comes next. “It’s all part of short track racing. Happy for these guys to get a well-deserved week off next week, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to run the truck at Rockingham before getting back in the Cup car at Bristol.”

Hocevar entered the race 15th in the standings and remains in contention as the season continues. The result at Martinsville added another solid finish, even with the late setback.

The race ended with Chase Elliott taking the win. For Hocevar and Wallace, the focus now shifts to the next race as both drivers look to recover from the incident and continue their seasons.

Dogli Wilberforce is a writer covering NASCAR, Formula 1, and the IndyCar Series for Heavy Sports.
