A fraud investigation that began last fall has seen an Ontario resident lose $500,000.<\/p>\n

Wellington County OPP say the victim, a resident of Puslinch Township, reported the incident in October and after a lengthy investigation, police on March 27 raided a home in Brampton where a large sum of Canadian currency, high-end clothing and purses, several electronic devices and personal documents.<\/p>\n

As a result of the investigation, Basit Balogun, a 29-year-old from Brampton, is charged under the\u00a0Criminal Code\u00a0with:<\/p>\n

Laundering proceeds of crime \u2013 did use \u2013 commission in Canada
\nPossession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
\nFraud over $5,000<\/p>\n

The accused was held in police custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph.<\/p>\n

The Wellington OPP is requesting anyone with information to call 1-888-310-1122.<\/p>\n
