It’s a team the Oilers can’t take lightly as they fight for their playoff lives.Seattle Kraken @ Edmonton OilersDate: Tuesday, March 31, 2026Start Time: 7 p.m. MTLocation: Edmonton, AlbertaVenue: Rogers PlaceWatch: Sportsnet1. Seattle sits just two points out of a playoff spot, and a win could put them in a tie with the Nashville Predators for the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. Seattle would have a game in hand, playing to their benefit, and while they’ve sputtered to a 3-5-2 record in their last 10, they have some pieces performing.2. One of which is Bobby McMann, whom they acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs at the trade deadline for a second-round pick in 2027 and a fourth-round pick in 2026. He’s played in eight games since the trade, leading the team in goals (seven) and sitting tied with Kaapo Kakko for the lead in points with 11. He was producing on the top line with Matty Beniers and Jordan Eberle, but was on their second line alongside Chandler Stephenson and Kakko for their most recent game against Buffalo.

3. A major issue for the Kraken since the deadline: their goaltending. After solid starts to the season from Joey Daccord and Philipp Grubauer, both have tailed off, with Seattle’s .867 save percentage sixth-worst in the league.

4. The Oilers, meanwhile, will look to win their fourth straight game for the first time this season. Their only other three-game winning streak came between Jan. 24 – Jan. 29, beating the Washington Capitals, Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks, before losing big to the Minnesota Wild 7-3 to close out the month.

5. Edmonton is playing their best hockey at the right time of year, going 7-4-1 since the NHL’s trade deadline. They’ve been outscored 41-38 over that stretch, but 6-3 and 7-2 losses to the Carolina Hurricanes and Dallas Stars, respectively, skew those numbers a bit. Removing those two losses, the Oilers have outscored the opposition 33-28 in 10 games— a number that feels more realistic to where their play has been.

What they said…

“We’re playing a lot faster because of that simplicity, and I think defensively, we’re playing with a little more structure, but also a little more commitment to defence,” Head Coach Kris Knoblauch said. “But there’s been a lot of blocked shots the last few games, and you can just tell that the urgency to win your shift and do the little things is going a long way.”

“The urgency is just our schedule and where we are in the standings. Everyone knows how important all these games are, and we can’t just relax and play this out. We need to get better. We need to win hockey games and get into the playoffs, and I think everyone has been doing that.”

“Confidence is definitely high right now,” Savoie said. “It helps seeing the puck go in and getting lots of opportunities right now with some pretty good players. Obviously, it was a really good play by Davo to get that to Podz, and then he makes an unbelievable play to kind of give me an open net. I’m just trying to capitalize and put myself in good spots.”

“I thought we battled hard. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get it done,” Kraken coach Lane Lambert said. “I thought our goaltender was outstanding, gave us the game we needed. I thought we had a lot of really good chances. We have to score.”

“It’s been super helpful with this organization,” McMann said. “They’ve thrown everything at me. They’ve been super helpful getting me in here, and Lane’s been super great getting me up to speed with systems, with how the guys are playing, where he wants me to fit. But then, also, there’s just a lot of confidence bringing me in.”

Final word…

The Oilers have dominated the Kraken since they entered the league, going a staggering 14-4 against them, while outscoring Seattle 76 to 50 for a +26 goal differential. Edmonton has scored 3.33 goals per game without Leon Draisaitl in the lineup, and they’ll need to keep finding ways to generate.

Zach Laing is Oilersnation’s managing editor, and The Nation Network’s news director.
