The Edmonton Oilers have reassigned<\/a> forward Roby J\u00e4rventie<\/a> to their AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. The move leaves the Oilers with 13 healthy forwards on their active roster.<\/p>\n

J\u00e4rventie was originally recalled on March 19 when the Oilers shifted star center Leon Draisaitl<\/a> to long-term injured reserve. The 23-year-old made his Oilers debut on March 21 in the team\u2019s loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, and ended up dressing for three games in Edmonton, and serving as a healthy scratch for one. His trio of games on this most recent recall were J\u00e4rventie\u2019s first NHL contests since he played in seven games for the Ottawa Senators in 2023-24.<\/p>\n

The No. 33 pick of the 2020 NHL draft, J\u00e4rventie has yet to make real headway in the NHL in the limited opportunities he\u2019s received. The 6\u20193\u2033, 209-pound winger has been a solid AHL scorer for much of his time in North America, and has 17 goals and 36 points in 52 AHL games this season. In the NHL, he\u2019s registered one point in his 10 career games, but is still waiting on his first NHL goal.<\/p>\n

On this most recent recall, J\u00e4rventie played sparingly, averaging 8:00 time on ice per game. His impact on the box score was limited to one hit, two shots on goal, and four blocked shots. Interestingly, J\u00e4rventie\u2019s solid AHL production hasn\u2019t actually come in a significant lineup role. He\u2019s not one of the team\u2019s leaders among forwards in terms of how much ice time he receives per game, and is typically behind both veterans such as Seth Griffith<\/a> and Max Jones<\/a>, as well as younger forwards such as Quinn Hutson<\/a>, Viljami Marjala<\/a>, and Isaac Howard<\/a> on the depth chart.<\/p>\n

For J\u00e4rventie to maximize his odds of earning another NHL call-up, he\u2019ll likely want to find a way to get onto the Condors\u2019 top power play unit on a more consistent basis, and also find a way to earn a more substantial lineup role, so that he can increase his production at that level even further.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Edmonton Oilers have reassigned forward Roby J\u00e4rventie to their AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors.
