SURREY \u2014 British Columbia\u2019s Independent Investigations Office says it\u2019s hoping to hear from witnesses to a police-involved shooting in Metro Vancouver that Surrey police say left a man with minor injuries. <\/p>\n
The Surrey Police Service says officers were called to a home on 81 Avenue about a report of a person with a weapon on Sunday night, and the man allegedly confronted police with an \u201cedged weapon\u201d during an attempted arrest. <\/p>\n
Police say officers shot the man, and he was treated by paramedics before being taken to the hospital. <\/p>\n
The police service says it has notified the Independent Investigations Office of BC, which is tasked with probing cases in which people suffer serious harm or death involving police actions or inactions. <\/p>\n
The Independent Investigations Office says officers used both \u201cless-lethal weapons\u201d and a gun during the confrontation. <\/p>\n
The civilian oversight agency says it is now looking into whether \u201cthere are reasonable grounds to believe\u201d officers committed an offence.<\/p>\n
