On Monday\u2019s \u201cActions Detrimental<\/a>,\u201d Denny Hamlin ranted about the length of cautions<\/a> in NASCAR<\/a> in the aftermath of Sunday\u2019s Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway. Hamlin went as far to say that NASCAR is \u201churting the watching experience\u201d by dragging out cautions. <\/p>\n

Dale Earnhardt Jr. agrees with Hamlin and offered another reason as to why the length of cautions is negatively impacting the product. Sunday at Martinsville, the first caution of the race came with two laps remaining in Stage 1. Green flag did not wave until 18 laps into Stage 2, a considerable amount of the stage taken away by caution laps. That, Earnhardt said, is an issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s right,\u201d Earnhardt wrote on X<\/a> in response to Jeff Gluck of The Athletic<\/a>\u2018s post of Hamlin\u2019s comments. \u201cIt\u2019s also chewing into the next stage and shortening up those parts of the race: taking product off the shelf.\u201d<\/p>\n

Many NASCAR fans took to social media to share their displeasure with the caution time at the end of Stage 1. Justin Penik of Jomboy Media<\/a> called it the \u201cbiggest problem in the sport<\/a>\u201d currently.<\/p>\n

\u201cI honestly think the biggest problem in the sport of NASCAR right now is how they handle the end of stages,\u201d Penik tweeted. \u201cCaution was thrown with two laps left in the stage. The green flag was thrown 18 laps into the second stage. That\u2019s absolutely ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Denny Hamlin shares full thoughts on caution length in NASCAR<\/p>\n

Several drivers, including Ryan Preece, were confused as to why so many laps were rolled under caution. Hamlin felt compelled to speak out, frustrated by the influence TV has on the length of cautions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re running too long under caution,\u201d Hamlin said. \u201cWe have to find a way to shorten them up, but we won\u2019t shorten them up as long as we\u2019re doing what we\u2019re doing in the sense of \u2018TV has to catch the pit stops live.\u2019 OK, well then you\u2019ve got to shorten your commercials or something. <\/p>\n
