Chelsea<\/a> are reportedly ready to make a move to replace Levi Colwill, after the England international suffered a devastating ACL injury.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old defender, fresh from a breakthrough season in which he made 43 appearances across all competitions, sustained the injury during the Blues’ first training session back in pre-season.<\/p>\n

Colwill has since undergone successful surgery and begun his rehabilitation, but his absence leaves a huge gap in Enzo Maresca<\/a>‘s defensive options.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Indeed, Chelsea have set their sights on Barcelona<\/a> defender Ronald Araujo, according to local outlet\u00a0Football Espana<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It is believed that Chelsea would be willing to pay \u00a343million for the 26-year-old Uruguay international.<\/p>\n

There is hope at Stamford Bridge that this fee would be enough to get a deal over the line, in light of Barcelona’s precarious financial situation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 6ft 2in centre back has been a mainstay at the Nou Camp since his arrival from Boston River in 2018, making 175 appearances for the Catalan giants and winning two La Liga titles.<\/p>\n

Araujo penned a long-term contract extension in January until 2031, but Barcelona\u2019s financial constraints could force them to listen to offers.<\/p>\n

Daily Mail Sport understands that Chelsea are still considering whether they absolutely need to make a move for a central defender this month.<\/p>\n

Josh Acheampong was used as the left-sided centre back in their friendly against Bayer Leverkusen on Friday.<\/p>\n

It is an important position under Maresca as that player is expected to shuffle across when the left back inverts into midfield.\u00a0Acheampong, 19, performed well, with Aaron Anselmino, 20, replacing him late on.<\/p>\n

Jorrel Hato can also be used as a left-sided centre back as well as a left back, which is where the \u00a337m signing from Ajax played on Friday after replacing Cucurella at half-time.<\/p>\n
