\n\tMilly Alcock<\/a>, who is leading the upcoming Supergirl<\/a> film<\/a>, is opening up about how she prepares herself for backlash.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs someone who previously starred on HBO\u2019s House of the Dragon, she has some experience with an intense fandom. And that\u2019s only helped her prepare for the inevitable backlash she\u2019ll face as a woman leading a superhero blockbuster. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on,\u201d Alcock recently told Vanity Fair<\/a> of what she learned from working on the Game of Thrones prequel series. \u201cWe have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women\u2019s bodies. I can\u2019t really stop them. I can only be myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Sirens actress previously told Nylon<\/a> in 2022 that she tries not to engage with online discourse regarding her projects \u201cbecause it doesn\u2019t benefit me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt just makes me incredibly anxious,\u201d she added at the time. \u201cMe seeing my face constantly is straining. No one should have to do that. It fuckin\u2019 sucks, man. I don\u2019t know how the socialites of the world can do that. It\u2019s kind of driving me off the wall. It\u2019s an incredibly difficult space to navigate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tElsewhere in her interview with VF, Alcock was also asked about legendary directors Martin Scorsese and Ridley Scott\u2019s criticism of the superhero genre. Scorsese previously said<\/a> those types of films are \u201cnot cinema\u201d and compared them to \u201ctheme parks,\u201d while Scott has called<\/a> them \u201cboring as shit.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI get it,\u201d she responded. \u201cThey\u2019ve been around for fucking ever making phenomenal films. \u2026 Not every film is for everyone. The beauty of art is that you can be selective.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSupergirl hits theaters on June 26.
