Programming to Support Young Parents<\/p>\n
Any teenage parents who want to join the program meet on Monday evenings at 333 King Street.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“This program has a room where we can grab clothes for our kids. That’s really helpful too. It’s just really helpful to get out with the kids, too.”<\/p>\n
On Wednesdays, the young parents meet at YFC for a discipleship group where they are encouraged to grow in their Christian faith. Each program also has a mentor who cares for and supports them. YFC volunteer Emily is Savanah’s mentor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I like the dinners we would have as a family,” says Savanah, recalling the special events the program put on. “We got to take pictures at the Christmas dinner.”<\/p>\n
There is childcare available to allow parents time not only to decompress from the constant demands of parenthood but also to connect with others facing the same joys and challenges.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I think this program’s different because, when you first come here, it seems so open. None of the girls look at you weird. Everything is so welcoming. Most programs don’t have a childcare room. That’s really nice too.”<\/p>\n
Savanah is the mother to a one- and two-year-old. YFC has helped her with housing applications as well as caring for her mental health.\u00a0<\/p>\n
More than just Resources, the Mentors offer Emotional and Spiritual Support<\/p>\n
While attending the Young Parents program with YFC Winnipeg, Savanah decided to give her life to Jesus and became a Christian.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I knew about Jesus, but I never read the Bible. I liked reading the Psalms, especially 23. Before, I didn’t really think of him [God] that much. I didn’t really try prayer or anything. But when I started coming, I got my own Bible, and I’ve been reading it whenever I have spare time.”<\/p>\n
