Student Support Appreciation Day<\/a>, an opportunity to highlight the outstanding work of inclusive education support workers (IESWs), child and youth care workers (CYCWs), supervision aides, custodians, bus drivers and all other school and district staff who make a difference in the lives of students every day.<\/p>\n\u201cSupport workers hold many important positions throughout our schools, working both in the classroom and behind the scenes to ensure student success,\u201d said Surrey Board of Education Chair Gary Tymoschuk. \u201cWe are continuously grateful for your commitment to supporting student learning, and our schools are stronger because of you.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOur support workers are the unsung heroes of the district,\u201d said Supt. Mark Pearmain. \u201cThe impact of your work is felt in every student achievement, every calm moment and every breakthrough, and today, we recognize the patience, compassion and resilience you bring into our schools each and every day.\u201d<\/p>\n
Student Support Appreciation Day is recognized on the first Wednesday of April and is sometimes referred to as Paraprofessional Appreciation Day, encompassing a broad range of roles as members of school education teams.<\/p>\n
Support staff, teaching staff and administrative staff work together to uphold safe, inclusive and welcoming environments at all of our Surrey and White Rock schools.<\/p>\n
