The city\u2019s Shared E-scooter Pilot Program is back for another year, with new designated parking areas that will limit where residents can start and stop their trips in Brampton.<\/p>\n
First launching in 2023, Brampton was the first city in the Greater Toronto Area to approve an e-scooter program and riders have since put nearly 3 million kilometres on the kick-style electric scooters.<\/p>\n
The program kicked-off again in Brampton on Wednesday, with around 900 e-scooters available for short-term rentals from operators Neuron Mobility, Bird Canada and Scooty Mobility through their individual smartphone apps.<\/p>\n
The city introduced a hybrid parking model in 2024 with designated parking stalls in areas with high pedestrian traffic, and says designated parking areas are city-wide this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cRiders must start and end trips in designated parking areas shown in each operator\u2019s app,\u201d the city says.<\/p>\n
The change to parking rules were made \u201cto reduce sidewalk obstructions, improve accessibility and enhance safety for all road users.\u201d<\/p>\n

The vehicles are designed so that their speeds are limited to a maximum of 20 km\/h, and have been \u201cgeo-fenced\u201d to reduce speeds to 15 km\/h when operating in parks, high-pedestrian areas, and paths.<\/p>\n
Users are reminded to follow traffic rules and ride responsibly, park in designated locations only, and use an operator\u2019s app to find approved parking areas.<\/p>\n
While the city expected a drop in riders between year one and year two after the \u201cnovelty\u201d of the program wore off, the huge drop in trips last year is due \u201cto the decrease in international student population,\u201d<\/a> and requirements of the provincially-supported program, including prohibition of sidewalk riding and parking requirements, a city report says.<\/p>\n The city has said there were 152 complaints related to e-scooters made to Brampton 311 in 2025, down from 174 calls in 2024 and another 256 complaints in 2023.<\/p>\n Feedback from riders will help shape the e-scoot program in future years, and the city is encouraging residents to share their input by emailing [email\u00a0protected]<\/a> or by calling 311.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, in Mississauga, Ward 8 Coun. and Deputy Mayor Matt Mahoney has called on that city to \u201cpause\u201d its program amid safety concerns<\/a>.<\/p>\n
