In what we can only assume is an elaborate honeypot operation meant to lure all of America\u2019s dads into a single viewing location\u2014possibly to extract their vital \u201cHow to grill a burger while changing your oil\u201d strategies\u2014AMC has announced that it\u2019s launching a new TV drama set in the world of NASCAR, with Dennis Quaid set to star.<\/p>\n
This is per\u00a0Deadline<\/a>, which reports that Quaid has been attached to star in\u00a0Thunder Road, a new drama series from\u00a0Young Guns\u00a0writer (and\u00a0Marco Polo\u00a0creator) John Fusco. And while it would be reductive to say the series sounds like an attempt to steal the \u201cred-state\u00a0Succession title\u201d away from Paramount\u2019s\u00a0Yellowstone, it probably wouldn\u2019t be\u00a0too\u00a0reductive: The series will see Quaid play Duane \u201cThe Wrecking Ball\u201d Whitlock, a \u201ca towering figure who built a racing empire from a legacy of moonshine runs and dirt tracks and refuses to let it die,\u201d and who\u2019s described as an \u201cold king fighting to hold onto his crown.\u201d Quaid is fresh off his own Taylor Sheridan show (Lawmen: Bass Reeves), a memorable turn playing into his own shrimp-slobbering vibe in 2024\u2019s The Substance<\/a>, and, because reality is getting thinner and thinner by the day, being on Air Force One with Donald Trump during the flight when Trump ordered the bombing of Iran<\/a>.<\/p>\n Thunder Road\u00a0is being produced with official help and approval from NASCAR, which should make it easier to get actual footage of stock cars going extremely fast. (The alternative, of painting a big Tide logo on a Honda and yelling vroom at the top of your lungs from the backseat, would presumably be too awkward for long-term filming.)
