{"id":576847,"date":"2026-04-02T06:34:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T06:34:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/576847\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T06:34:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T06:34:13","slug":"dennis-quaid-lands-lead-role-in-amc-nascar-series-thunder-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/576847\/","title":{"rendered":"Dennis Quaid lands lead role in AMC NASCAR series &#8216;Thunder Road&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dennis Quaid has landed the lead role in the NASCAR series Thunder Road, which is currently in development at AMC, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/tv\/news\/dennis-quaid-nascar-series-thunder-road-amc-1236704853\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to Joe Otterson of Variety.<\/a> The 71-year-old actor will star as Duane Whitlock, a.k.a The Wrecking Ball, and the character is described as \u00a0\u201ca NASCAR legend.\u201d\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>Whitlock is also \u201ca towering figure who built a racing empire from a legacy of moonshine runs and dirt tracks\u2026 and refuses to let it die. This is a story about a blue-collar dynasty at the edge of extinction \u2014 and the old king fighting to hold onto his crown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thunder Road is being produced in partnership with AMC and NASCAR, and the hope is that production begins this summer. John Fusco is the writer and executive producer, and Taylor Elmore will serve as a showrunner and executive producer. Tim Clark and John Dahl are executive producers on behalf of NASCAR.<\/p>\n<p>More on Dennis Quaid and the NASCAR series \u2018Thunder Road\u2019<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/pro\/news\/nascar-amc-teaming-up-for-succession-type-drama-series-thunder-road-set-in-stock-car-racing-world\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">It was announced in November<\/a> that NASCAR and AMC are teaming up for Thunder Road. \u201cThunder Road\u00a0is about the Whitlock racing dynasty, a family bound by legacy, love, and the weight of their name,\u201d Fusco said at the time. \u201cSet against the high-stakes world of NASCAR and the mythic outlaw roots of a sport born on the whiskey-running backroads of the south, you might call it\u00a0Succession\u00a0with stock cars. I\u2019m thrilled to have the opportunity to bring this dramatic, action-packed, uniquely American story to life with\u00a0AMC\u00a0and NASCAR.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dennis Quaid is no stranger to sports projects in Hollywood. Some of the films the Emmy-nominated actor has starred in are Everybody\u2019s All-American, The Long Game, Any Given Sunday, Express: The Ernie Davis Story, and The Rookie.<\/p>\n<p>The development of Thunder Road comes as Paramount Pictures is working on a sequel for the NASCAR film Days of Thunder. Last month, a Hollywood film writer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/pro\/news\/days-of-thunder-hollywood-writer-visits-nascar-tracks-for-tom-cruise-sequel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">met with NASCAR teams and drivers<\/a> to help develop a plot for Days of Thunder 2.
