{"id":577061,"date":"2026-04-02T08:52:21","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T08:52:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/577061\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T08:52:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T08:52:21","slug":"emergency-care-improvements-coming-to-kelowna-hospital-thanks-to-fundraising-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/577061\/","title":{"rendered":"Emergency care improvements coming to Kelowna hospital thanks to fundraising campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thousands of people access emergency medical care at <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/kelowna\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kelowna<\/a> General Hospital (KGH) every year, but now the emergency room (ER) will get some much-needed care of its own.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully that translates into patients having a more seamless care journey in the emergency, getting kind of more efficiently brought into the department,\u201d said Dr. Jared Baylis, an ER physician and the department\u2019s medical director.<\/p>\n<p>The KGH Foundation is about to launch a $2.5 million fundraising campaign to enhance emergency care in the Interior\u2019s largest hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all feeling kind of energized and excited about this,\u201d Baylis said.<\/p>\n<p>Called Give Where It Matters Most, the campaign is the last piece of the broader $40 million Closer To Home campaign.<\/p>\n<p>It involves targeted improvements identified by medical teams and Interior Health (IH).<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a very big need for us and has been identified as a site priority for a while,\u201d said Lindsay Taberner, KGH executive director of clinical operations.<\/p>\n<p>The improvements will include redesigning patient registration and expanding triage capacity to help reduce wait times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we have more ability and more space to triage patients, that will improve the triage time,\u201d Taberner said. \u201cSo improved time to assessment and then time to result and time to treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1767930311_275_national.jpg\" alt=\"Get breaking Canada news delivered to your inbox as it happens so you won't miss a trending story.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet breaking National news<\/p>\n<p>Get breaking Canada news delivered to your inbox as it happens so you won&#8217;t miss a trending story.<\/p>\n<p>The redesigned space will also improve sightlines, allowing for better monitoring of vulnerable patients.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think triage is known to (be) a bit of a danger zone, because that\u2019s the point where somebody\u2019s come in seeking care but they haven\u2019t yet been assessed or treated for what they\u2019re coming in for,\u201d Baylis said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if wait times are starting to balloon, then people are in the waiting room for longer and longer and things can happen while they\u2019re waiting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-video__image\" alt=\"Click to play video: 'KGH Foundation launches new cancer care campaign'\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/KGH_FOUNDATION_PIC_2.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"   data-\/><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t2:05<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tKGH Foundation launches new cancer care campaign\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The funds will also support new diagnostic equipment including two mobile ultrasounds and a dedicated ER ECG and lab area, which Baylis said will help streamline the treatment process.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Canada<br \/>\n\t\t\tMore videos\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now there can be some confusion about what happens next for patients. So they come in, they get triaged. Are they going to see the doctor next? Are they going for lab tests next?
