NEW YORK \u2013 The 66th-ranked Columbia women’s tennis team continues its season-long four-match homestand this weekend when the Lions host Ivy League rivals Brown and Yale.\u00a0 Both matches are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday and Sunday at the Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.<\/p>\n

LIONS HOST CITY PARKS FOUNDATION
\nOn Saturday, the Lions will host a group of kids, parents and coaches from the City Parks Foundation tennis program. The City Parks Foundation’s tennis programs provide opportunities for kids of all levels across city parks, including free beginner lessons, tournaments, leagues, excellence programs, and special events with tennis professionals. A select group of participants receives full scholarships to the Columbia Summer Tennis Camp. The City Parks Foundation group will also be treated to a pre-match pizza party and a post-match meet & greet with the players.<\/p>\n

\nThe Lions soundly defeated Cornell, 4-2, last Saturday at the Milstein Family Tennis Center. As they have all year, the Lions took the doubles point and took an early 2-0 lead when Amber Yin<\/a> dominated her opponent, winning 6-1, 6-1 on court six. The Big Red went on to tie the match with wins on court three and court two, but Gayathri Krishnan<\/a> got the momentum back in the Lions’ favor, finishing off her opponent 6-1, 6-4 on court one. Michelle Li<\/a> clinched the match with an impressive three-set win. After falling 2-6 in the first, she rallied back to win 6-4, 6-2 to give the Lions the win.

\nIN THE RANKINGS
\nIn the latest ITA team rankings, the Lions are one of five Ivy League teams ranked in the top-75. Columbia checks in at No. 66, just behind Yale (No. 47), Princeton (No. 52), Dartmouth (No. 62) and ahead of Harvard (No. 67).

\nHOME COURT ADVANTAGE
\nThe Lions are 8-0 at the Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center this season. Even more impressive is that the Lions have outscored their opponents 37-4 in home matches this season. Cornell and Purdue are the only teams to have scored a point against Columbia on the home courts. In that 8-0 stretch, the Lions have defeated LIU 7-0, Michigan State 4-0, FDU 5-0, Marshall 4-0, Wagner 4-0, and NJIT 4-0.<\/p>\n
\nThe Bears enter this weekend with a 13-5 overall record, and in Ivy League play, they are 0-1. Last weekend, Brown lost to Yale on the road 4-1 before rebounding to defeat Bryant at home 6-1. Brown has had a revolving door at the top singles spot, sophomore Hannah Shen is 4-3 at the No. 1 singles spot and is 14-13 overall. At the No. 1 doubles, the duo of Shen and Dani Ben-Abraham is 9-7 overall.

\nSERIES\u00a0HISTORY
\nSaturday, 42nd time the Lions and Bears have squared off. All-time Brown owns a 22-19 advantage in the series that dates back to 1985. Recently, the Lions have owned the Bears, winning five straight and 13 of the last 17 meetings dating back to the 2012 season. Columbia faced the Bears in the third-place match at the ECAC Championship earlier this year and defeated Brown 4-1. Last season, Columbia swept the Bears in a pair of matches, winning by a combined score of 8-0.<\/p>\n

\nThe Bulldogs enter this weekend with a 14-2 overall record, and they are 4-1 in true road contests. Their two losses came at the hands of Stanford and Penn State, where they lost 2-4 in both matches. Last time out, the Bulldogs defeated Brown 4-1 at home. On Saturday, they will take on Cornell in Ithaca before coming to Inwood on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\nSunday will be the 45th meeting between the Lions and Bulldogs. Yale owns a 28-16 advantage in the series that dates back to April 19, 1986, when the Bulldogs defeated Columbia 9-0. Last season, the Bulldogs went 2-0 against the Lions, winning 4-2 in the ECAC Indoor Championships and then following up with a 4-2 win at home in Ivy League Play. The win in the ECAC Championships ended a seven-match winning streak by the Lions over the Bulldogs.<\/p>\n
