This annual campaign recognizes the many ways that poetry enriches our lives and culture. From legendary works like Homer\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/mississauga.bibliocommons.com\/v2\/record\/S220C77296\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Odyssey<\/a>\u201d to modern-day classics like Rupi Kaur\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/mississauga.bibliocommons.com\/v2\/record\/S220C434457\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Milk and Honey<\/a>\u201d, there is a lot to explore.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Mississauga is committed to celebrating cultural diversity and experiences, including fostering its creative sectors. Initiatives like Poetry Month is one of many key actions the City is taking to help promote literacy and lifelong learning, while helping to elevate the status of arts and culture within the community. This builds upon the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mississauga.ca\/publication\/2024-future-directions-plans\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Future Directions<\/a> Culture and Library Plans, and Prosper and Belong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mississauga.ca\/projects-and-strategies\/strategies-and-plans\/strategic-plan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Strategic Pillars for Change.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Poet and Youth Poet Laureates \u2013 the City\u2019s literary ambassadors \u2013 use their creativity through literary arts to bring value to residents and those around them, and have provided input in this year\u2019s Poetry Month programming.<\/p>\n<p>From Mississauga\u2019s annual Poetry Slam to open mic nights and workshops, there is a wide range of activities for everyone to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>Open Mic Night<\/p>\n<p>Thursday, April 2, 2026<br \/>6 to 8 p.m.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Hazel+McCallion+Central+Library\/@43.5875534,-79.6462163,686m\/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x882b388f9ccaf40b:0xa61f51c37a068159!8m2!3d43.5875534!4d-79.6436414!16s%2Fg%2F1tfp_glz?entry=ttu&amp;g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDMzMS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hazel McCallion Central Library \u2013 Makerspace Stage<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Share some verses with the City\u2019s current Poet Laureate, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mississauga.ca\/city-of-mississauga-news\/news\/city-of-mississauga-welcomes-its-fifth-poet-laureate\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andrea Josic,<\/a> and Youth Poet Laureate, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mississauga.ca\/city-of-mississauga-news\/news\/city-of-mississauga-welcomes-its-fifth-youth-poet-laureate\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tahira Rajwani<\/a>.
